Webshop vs Teleshop A few weeks ago newspaper headlines shouted that webshops are very leaky. It appears that 80% of the webshops are not taking the necessary precautions to secure the connection. The bigger webshops are using SSL connections which need a certificate (which needs to be purchased). Consumers that use a webshop with an SSL connection will recognize this by the lock appearing in the screen or when ‘HTTPS’ appears in the explorer address field. On webshops that do not use this it is possible to scan and intercept name and address information including email address and even credit card numbers. Criminals can use this information to change delivery addresses or buy products under a false identity. Authentication on teleshops can be done much simpler and provide better security for the customer. The combination of the callers phone number and a personal PIN can provide a very secure log in.
